The Mathew Smith-trained Japanese-bred import Fierce Impact ,winner of the 2018 Summer Cup (Gr 3, 2000m) at Randwick, his only other stakes win, recorded his first Group 1 victory in 20 starts in scoring here.

Having his second run this preparation, he settled midfield (wide with cover) from his difficult barrier (15) before improving (deep) at the home turn. He moved up strongly at the 200m took the lead shortly afterwards and then drew clear to score a very good win.

Night's Watch raced back in 15th place, got along the inner coming to the home turn, eased deeper at the 200m and then finished well for second.

Age Of Chivalry began well and was handily placed in fourth spot. He moved up (under riding) at the home turn and then kept fighting on well for third. Sikandarabad settled back in 13th place, commenced a wide move at the home turn and then made good ground for (2.7 lengths) fourth.

Waging War had a nice trip from his good barrier (4) in third place and then held on to finish (3.7 lengths) fifth, just in advance of Cliff's Edge who tired late for sixth after running a bold race in the lead
