Waikato Stud bred Karaka graduates won the feature double at Hastings on Saturday including the G1 Livamol Classic winner Savvy Coup.
Savvy Coup (Savabeel x Eudora by Pins) added a second G1 win to her sparkling CV with an easy two lengths win in in the $250,000 Livamol Classic to go with her NZ Oaks success last season.
A $65,000 Karaka Premier Sale purchase, Savvy Coup was New Zealand’s champion three-year-old last season winning three stakes races for trainers Michael and Matthew Pitman.Savvy Coup, one of 17 G1 winners by New Zealand’s champion sire Savabeel, has now had 16 starts for six wins, five placings and $669,569 in stakes – more than 10 times her purchase price.
She is one of two winning foals for the unraced mare Eudora, a sister to the G2 winner Legless Veuve and the G3 winner Tootsie.Tootsie is also the dam of the G2 winner Ocean Emperor (Zabeel).
Eudora’s current two-year-old colt by Savabeel was sold by Waikato Stud at the 2018 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale for NZ$500,000 to the Hong Kong Jockey Club.She has a yearling colt by Ocean Park and is in foal to Rock ‘N’ Pop.
Waikato Stud’s late stallion Pins sired his 77th stakes winner when the Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained Madison County won the G2 Hawke’s Bay Guineas at Hastings.Madison County (Pins x Red Delicious by Rustington) is raced by China Horse Club and was having only his fourth start.
Bred by Waikato Stud’s Garry Chittick, he went through the ring in the 2017 Karaka Select Sale, selling for $36,000.Madison County’s dam Red Delicious is an unraced daughter of No Excuse Needed and a sister to the G3 winner Take The Rap.
His fourth dam is the Golden Slipper winner Courtza (Pompeii Pearl), the dam of the late multiple champion sire O’Reilly.With two wins and two placings from just four starts, Madison County has earned $92,810 prize-money.
