Coolmore Enjoys Carnival Success

3 minute read

Coolmore Australia has enjoyed a fairy tale run with four individual stakes winners in the space of a week, including two G1 winners, coming off the Hunter Valley property.

Last Saturday regally bred filly Invest (Dehere) became the 33rd individual G1 winner to have been 'raised and grazed' at Coolmore Australia when showing a dashing turn of foot to claim the G1 Schweppes Oaks at Morphettville.

The daughter of top race filly Unearthly was bred at Coolmore by John Camilleri, who has also enjoyed recent success with top class performers Gathering, Dariana, Trusting and One Last Dance, all bred at the famous Jerry's Plains nursery.

Invest was a $450,000 yearling purchase at the 2010 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale with Adrian Nicoll of the BBA Ireland acting on behalf of current owners Newhaven Park.

At Randwick the 34th G1 winner emerged when the Team Hawkes trained stayer Niwot (Galileo) proved too classy for a strong field in the G1 Sydney Cup.

Bred by Stephen and Anne Flynn in partnership with Aleco Vrisakis, Niwot realised $200,000 when offered through the Coolmore draft at the 2006 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and is the fourth individual southern hemisphere bred G1 winner for his sire.

Last Wednesday, the Peter Moody trained 3yo Vatuvei became yet another stakes winner to emerge from Coolmore when outstaying his rivals to take out the Listed VRC St Leger at Flemington.

This win came on the back on the outstanding effort of the John and Fu Mei Hutchins owned filly Risk Aversion (Encosta de Lago), who came from what had looked an impossible position to win the Listed Juanmo Stakes at Eagle Farm on April 21.

These four stakes winners have contributed to bringing the total number of stakes races won by graduates of Coolmore Australia to 305, a remarkable considering that Coolmore only commenced operations at Jerry's Plains in 1996.
