New Zealand-bred filly Verry Elleegant, having her second start for the Darren Weir stable, staked her claims for the upcoming VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) with a very good performance in scoring here. She raced a bit keenly in the early stages before John Allen settled her nicely back in ninth place on the rails before improving nearing the home turn. She moved up well on straightening, hit the front at the 100m and then went on to win well in a solid staying performance. Aristia raced in fifth place on the rails, improved nicely at the home turn, took the lead at the 100m and then fought on really well for second, her fifth placing in nine starts and remains one of the better (if not best) maidens racing at the moment. Sizzleme settled in sixth place, one off the rails, commenced a quick move from the 600m, took the lead on straightening and then fought on nicely for third after running a bold race.
